What to compare
Match the adhesive to the whole floor system.
An adhesive is selected for the flooring backing, substrate and application method. A brand name or a general “flooring adhesive” label is not enough to confirm that a pail is right for your job.
- MAPEI Ultrabond ECO 20
- MAPEI lists this standard adhesive for felt-backed sheet vinyl and specified carpet backings. Do not assume it is approved for every vinyl plank simply because both products are described as vinyl. Check the current technical sheet.
- Taylor Dynamic
- Taylor’s Dynamic technical sheet lists several compatible flooring types, including specified LVP/LVT and carpet applications. Confirm the exact flooring backing, substrate and application method against both manufacturers’ instructions.
- Substrate and moisture
- Know the substrate type and required moisture and pH test results before choosing adhesive. Moisture tolerance is different from moisture mitigation: Taylor specifically states Dynamic does not form a moisture-vapor barrier.
- Trowel and coverage
- Coverage depends on the required tool, the flooring backing and substrate conditions. Work from the applicable coverage range and actual pail size rather than assuming every gallon covers the same area.
- Flash time and working time
- Some systems require waiting before placing the flooring. Temperature, humidity and porosity can affect timing. Follow the instructions for the chosen application rather than using one timing rule for all products.
- Storage and opening the room
- Check storage conditions, shelf life and the instructions for traffic and cleaning after installation. Plan the project around those requirements, including when furniture or equipment can return.

Bring the flooring carton label or technical sheet when buying adhesive in Las Vegas. The useful details include whether the floor is dryback vinyl, felt-backed sheet material or a particular carpet backing, plus the substrate and room area. This lets you compare a named MAPEI or Taylor flooring adhesive against a defined application.
Estimate pails from the coverage for the required trowel and backing, not just the largest coverage number on a label. For example, if the applicable coverage were 600 square feet per pail, a 1,000-square-foot project would need at least two pails before allowing for actual job conditions. Those figures illustrate the arithmetic and are not a specification for the products above.
Confirm the installation instructions before opening material, including adhesive transfer, rolling requirements, working time and the point when traffic may resume. Keep the technical sheet and purchase details with the project records so the installer is working from the same product information.

Identify the exact plank and installation system first. Floating, dryback glue-down and adhesive-backed products follow different instructions.
Can adhesive solve a damp subfloor?
Do not assume so. The adhesive’s permitted moisture conditions and a separate moisture-control system are different matters.
How many pails do I need?
Use the coverage specified for your flooring and tool, account for job conditions, and round up to the available pail size.
