A polished look, a matte surface and a large-format design can create very different rooms. Check the technical details for the chosen tile and size; a collection may include products with different approved uses.

Porcelain and ceramic

Porcelain is a type of ceramic tile defined by very low water absorption. Check the product’s material and application listing rather than assuming every tile in the category is porcelain or suitable outdoors.

Floor versus wall use

Choose a product approved for the intended surface. A decorative wall tile is not automatically a floor tile. Wet rooms, shower floors and outdoor areas need their own suitability checks.

Size and layout

Large-format tile changes the scale of a room and the placement of grout lines. Plan cuts, pattern direction and transitions with the installer before calculating quantity.

Finish and traction

Polished, matte and textured surfaces look and feel different. Where published, DCOF reports describe tested friction performance; one number does not guarantee slip prevention in every condition. Confirm suitability for the space and expected moisture.

Wear and variation

A published glazed-surface wear rating helps assess the intended traffic. Shade-variation information tells you how much tiles may differ visually. Review several pieces rather than making the decision from one small sample.

Edges, grout and preparation

Rectified edges do not mean a grout-free installation. Grout joints, movement accommodation, substrate flatness and the setting system need to follow the applicable product instructions.

Coverage and matching cartons

Confirm coverage for the selected size and allow for cuts. For repairs or additional rooms, check shade and caliber information when available; the same collection name alone may not guarantee a match.
