What to compare

Look beyond color and softness.

A sample tells you how carpet feels today. The fiber, construction, cushion and layout help you decide how it fits the way you use the room. Our carpet category also includes commercial and event options, with dedicated pages for those projects.

Fiber
Check the listed fiber for each product. Nylon, polyester and other fibers have different characteristics, and treatments vary by manufacturer. Choose with your traffic and cleaning routine in mind rather than assuming every carpet in a collection performs alike.
Pile construction
Cut pile, loop pile and patterned constructions create different textures. Dense construction and the way yarn is twisted or looped matter to appearance retention. Ask to see the face and backing of a sample, especially for stairs and busy paths.
Face weight and density
Face weight describes the amount of face yarn per square yard; it is not the whole carpet’s weight or a complete quality score. Compare it with pile height and density. More ounces alone do not prove a carpet will perform better.
Cushion thickness and density
The cushion is part of the floor system. Match its thickness and density to the carpet manufacturer’s requirements. The softest or thickest pad is not automatically the best support for every construction.
Roll width and seams
Carpet is cut from rolls. Room shape, roll width, pattern matching and seam placement affect how much material is needed. Square footage alone cannot tell you whether a particular cut will fit a room.
Stock units
Linear feet measure length along a roll. Multiply length by the actual roll width for square feet, then divide by nine for square yards. Confirm the selected option and usable continuous cut length before ordering; the area shown in stock may need to cover seams and cutting waste.

Bedrooms may put softness and color first, while living rooms, halls and stairs call for closer comparison of construction, traffic suitability and appearance retention. Bring those priorities to the showroom so you can compare samples for the rooms you actually have.

When choosing a carpet store, look beyond a single square-yard figure. Ask what the material quote includes, which cushion fits the carpet and how seams and cuts affect the order. Compare the same scope across quotes, including removal, preparation and installation arrangements where relevant.

For multiple rooms, bring a drawing showing doorways and connecting halls. This helps identify where continuity matters and where a change of material could work. Start with the feel, color and cleaning needs you prefer, then compare construction and approved cushion. View the sample against your bedding, furniture and wall color before choosing.

Do you have commercial and event carpet?

Can I order by the square footage of my room?

Use room area as a starting point. A cut plan must also account for roll width, seams, closets and pattern matching. We can discuss the quantity when you bring your measurements.
